Please read a few stories on the site. Hint: If you subscribe to our newsletter, we know you've done your homework.
For Big Ideas: We are looking for well-articulated, well-formulated pieces of creative non-fiction, including memoirs. Not sure what we publish? Follow us on Substack or check out our website. Max word count is 3,000 but less is more.
For Fiction: Esoterica looks for fiction that sticks with us for days. We ruminate about it in the shower and recount its key moments with our partners in bed. It's beautiful or devastating or haunting but not in a horror-flick way. It tells us something about what it means to be human.
If that sounds like your piece, please submit to us. We tend to run literary fiction under 3000 words but less is more.
Esoterica will take on two writers and their book projects in any given year. The work can be fiction or non-fiction/memoir. The selected writers will work with Esoterica's managing editor, who will coach you throughout the year to polish your work with the goal of publishing it. Excerpts will run in Esoterica. Writers must be committed and willing to pay for weekly coaching sessions.
What you get:
- Private and personalized coaching to get you from page to print ($175 an hour)
- A critical (but sensitive) editor to ensure you work, and that your work is engaging
- Work promoted through Esoterica
- A finished book that we will help you pitch to agents/editors.
Big Ideas: We want your creative non-fiction, your thoughtful memoir, your personalized essay on a topic near and dear to your heart. We will work with you to fine tune your work if we love the topic. Ideally, we want no more than 3000 words. There is no minimum word count.
